Shameless Displays
This from Move America Forward:
Were you as disgusted as we were with watching Barack Obama’s speech announcing the withdrawal of U.S. troops from Iraq and his acting like he was responsible for the victory? How shameless can you get!
Barack Obama and his allies in Congress, Democrat Senate leader Harry Reid and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, did all they could to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory in Iraq. They fought President Bush at every turn. When Senator John McCain and our military leaders said we needed a troop surge, Bush listened. Obama and his consortium of anti-military Congressional pals opposed it.
But Bush and McCain proved themselves to be right as our military men and women have led us to a spectacular victory in Iraq. While it isn’t over, we have largely pacified the country and took the huge oil resources of Iraq out of the potential hands of terrorists. Obama seems to forget that the number one job of President is to keep America safe.
If that wasn’t annoying enough, don’t you think Obama owed it to President Bush and Senator McCain to acknowledge their tough decisions and perseverance that has led to this victory? He didn’t mention them at all, except a cheap shot at Bush for getting us into Iraq in the first place. We were totally disgusted by this performance.
To make matters worse, Obama just announced the basic withdrawal plan that has already begun under President Bush – a plan that allows us to withdraw with victory, and not the defeat that Obama would have given us had he had his way and no military surge had taken place. Then, contrary to all of the military advice, he gives a specific timetable so our enemy knows how long it will take to wait us out?
President Obama is making a huge hullaballoo about nothing, in fact his “timetable” for withdrawal sounds no different from anything President George W. Bush ever proposed. A timely, gradual withdrawal, based on the conditions on the ground, making sure that Al Qaeda is not resurgent in the areas we are withdrawing from and ensuring that the Iraqi forces have a handle on security.
Barack Obama is basically implementing President Bush’s policies, which he has fought tooth and nail. The big difference is that President Bush seemed to understand the dangers of letting up on Al Qaeda, while Obama is giving them every opportunity to wait us out with his definite timetable and then come back.
Obama does not, however, and he never will, deserve any credit whatsoever for ending this war, winning the war, declaring the war over, ending the mission, declaring it over, or any other such phrases depicting closure that he or his speech writers may come up with.
Americans know who the real heroes of the Iraq war are: our troops who fought so bravely in every engagement; our generals like General David H. Petraeus who stood up to Congress and answered the tough questioning from anti-military defeatist liberals; President Bush showed remarkable courage with his commitment to winning the war in Iraq, even when public opinion was against him.
And let’s not forget Senator John McCain, who jeopardized his campaign for President by speaking the truth that we needed to send a surge of troops into Iraq.
President Obama on the other hand, opposed the surge and STILL refuses to acknowledge its vital role in the victory. He ran his campaign to appeal to the most left-wing elements of our society on a platform of retreat and defeat, and now he has the audacity he has to stand in front of our troops and tell them their time is up.

Obama rightfully gave credit where it should have been and that was to the American Troops. I’d rather see this then the idiotic ads during the campaign calling on Obama to give homage to The Surge as if it was the only thing that won the war and that efforts of the previous dead and fallen meant nothing. He also didn’t choose to malign the statement with underscoring how he was one of the few that opposed the war in Iraq in the first place.

David, where in that speech did Obama mention “victory”? When things went bad, he didn’t condemn the troops; he blamed Bush. When things are going well, why not blame Bush as well? Bush deserves the credit for what the troops have accomplished, not Obama. Why can’t he act in the non-partisan way he campaigned on? Probably because it would be devastating to his presidency to admit that Bush did ANYTHING right.

I also wondered what the h*** he is doing telling the terrorists just how long they have to wait us out. No military strategist here, but imagining if Churchill (for example) had given Hitler advance notice of when the Brits might be “done.”
Pathetic, and that’s putting it mildly.
Brat,
When should he divulge this information? Its not like you can move that much people and equipment overnight, perhaps sneak out the back door. I think its well put that there will be a sizable force left in place for a longer term, regardless of the political flak he took for it.

CJ,
I would truly like to give Bush some of his deserved credit, but as Afghanistan (this is where the 9/11 terrorist were trained) was lost in the shuffle. Obama will probably get blamed for its woes due to Bush’s mishandling. Not the first time that this has happened, mind you. Carter inherited an economic tailspin and a large debt left over from Vietnam that he took a lot of *** about. Then Reagan rode into town (the non-conservative conservative) and decared Carter the reason for the country’s economic troubles.
Go figure.

You never give details of military movement. This country has become one that will out the military’s ideas’, leak how we are tracking terrorists, what we will use to stop their bankroll, etc. IMO, the MSM is guilty of treason for printing such information. All the negative information about this war has caused more issues for our military fighting this war, and adding insult to injury is the dems who wanted to call this war LOST! They were wrong, yet there was no apology. They want to find our military guilty, instead of trying to rally and find them innocent. The dems aren’t a party that support the military, they are a party against it.
